All about E3.
Any gamers here?
Just my thought after the watching a bunch of E3 news on gaming website and youtube.
And yeah, prepare to spend lots of money next year... T_T
The next generation console, maybe will bring back the "epicness" of home consoles wars, just like what happened on 16-bit 32bit and 128bit era. That time, home consoles really hit their peak, lots of good games, lots of variety, new gameplay, etc.
The last gen (ps3 era) was good, but in my opinon was not really great, there are some of memorable games, but mostly not so...a jaw dropping experience.
Even some of the games bring tears...sad tears, yeah. Just what they did with Final Fantasy series, Star Oceans (Yes I'm pointing at you ScrewEnix!)
Some are a fresh new games, like Uncharted, Arkham series, etc
But some are a so so games, good but not so great. GTA 4 and the add ons were good, great graphically, but on gameplay... San Andreas was still better.
MGS 4 was good, but it didn't give something memorable just like Kojima did on the MGS on PSX.
For fighting games, SFIV and all of their versions, were good, but I don't like the graphics style >_<
SoulCalibur really ruin the story, DOA were good (waiting for the ultimate version, Momiji!!!)
MVC 3 was yeah, not bad.
In short last gen consoles is such a mediocre experience for me.
And now, looking at the next gen consoles.
This year E3 really looks promising, rather than Sony "Fake" tech demo on PS3 launching even.
If all this tech demo are true, well well... get ready to spend lots of cash next year.
MGS V looks really promising, Final Fantasy Versus XIII XV looks like a high tech Action RPG.
Love the characters design, looks really good. And all the driving/racing game looks really cool too.
Don't forget about WatchDogs, and lots of other next gen titles
And last but not least, I'll get the Wii-U just for that X game from monolith... I really hope it would be the next gen Xenogears, but the Namco's xenosaga were really disappointing me before.
Hope nintendo would bring Xenogears back!
And of course Mario games! ( really can't say no to mario games...>_<)
And Batman Arkham Origin for PS VIta...maybe I should grab Vita too... >_< but hey! there will be FFX remake on Vita too.

Now my credit is all at PS4. Not about games but it is about too many idiot conditions of MS.

I think Xenosaga 1 and 3 are very good, but the second one was suck.
Unfortunately, because of the second episode, so not many people play the third episode which I think it is the best one.

DeleteI don't even mention about XBOX-ONE, because it's absolutely "Bad". The DRM and always online policy (every 24 hours) is very very ridiculous, they even forbid people to sell their games (which is bought by them for full price), make no sense at all.

Yes, I hope nintendo start to do some marketing not only for their 1st party games, like Mario, DK, Kirby, Pokemon, etc.
They have lots of other great games, esp (J)RPG.
The first Xenoblade on Wii is actually much much much better than any PS3 + 360 JRPG! But Nintendo really dont give a damn about them, they even release it in US 2/3 years? after the Japan release date!
And now I hope they didnt do the same mistake. I believe the Wii-U is great as a RPG console. With double display like that, we can show our stats, inv and everything on the second screen, that would be awesome.
I just played the 1st Xenosaga. And it feels so different than Xenogears...so different, the feeling, even the story, is not as "critical" as the first one.
It's just another "Japanese Space Opera".

DeleteIt looks better than PS3 first model (fat ps3)
The specs is basically the same with the one revealed before.
An 8 core procs, 8GB RAM, and ATI custom GPU ( I think it's combined with the processor?)
500GB HD, can be replaced.
And 2 USB3 port.
A main selling point for me is backwards compatable I think

What I try to say is, I don't really "care" about the ability of one console to play the former console game.
We buy PS4 mainly is to play PS4 games right?
Of course sometime we want to play the past game too.
But I still keep my mega drive till now, and when I play Sonic, the music, the graphics, and feeling is so different than play it on emulator or any other console. ^_^
Eh, I've been much more of a PC Game guy ever since I moved from my old 2600/Intellivision to the first IBM PC, so maybe I'm just biased, but I'm seeing less and less reasons to buy consoles as the generations go on. From what I can see of the specs, for your $4-500 you're actually just getting the hardware of a low-mid range PC that you can never upgrade and comes with various bits of permanent DRM and other junk. (Wow, one of the big Xbox One features is that it lets you *install* software! How revolutionary!)

DeleteBut today consoles, is actually just a custom made PC.
The structure is no different than "normal" PC.
Starting with Dreamcast which was based on Windows CE OS.
And XBOX which is Direct-X console, and so today consoles.
But I personaly don't like to compare them. It's just comparing apple to orange. Both are fruits, both have Vitamin-C, but it's not the same.
Both can have a same "function" but on the other hand people won't have the same experience when eat apple and orange.

DeletePC and console have their own ecosystem.
Reason why people buy console is because its game. Hardware spec is just minor aspect, even if you have most high-end PC you still can't play God of War/MGS/Tekken and etc.
And PC is still ontouchable in terms of Multitasking (Office/Autocad/Corel), and don't forget they have their own exclusive game such as Starcraft/DOTA2.
Choose according your need is the wisest answer. :)
But my main point is that the "ecosystems" are combining. If game devs have to design around a specific hardware platform where they have to rework a bunch of code to get it to work elsewhere, then that does lend towards games being on just one platform. But if your game console is just a PC with a funny-looking case, then porting the game code is much less of a problem, and exclusivity suffers.
DeleteHeck, looking at a list of titles that were featured at E3, I note that there are actually very few that are actually console exclusive--and most of the ones that are all seem to be sequels. So yeah, I'm sure there will be the general initial purchasing flurry by the sort of people that are desperately hoping that Final Fantasy 15 will finally be the sequel that brings the franchise back to its glory days of FF7 and away from the crap that the last several have been, but assuming this gen is supposed to last as long as the last gen did do you really think they're going to be able to maintain separate momentum?
This gen, Sony might not need to do anything so much. The main rival just hit their self explode button before the battle has really started. Hahaha

DeleteWhen they ignite the ideas to "forbid" gamers to sell their own game, slow or fast, the industries will try to apply this idea no matter what, silently or not.
Maybe they will remove some of the games content on the second user, or remove the online capability, etc.
Because it actually give "LOTS" of benefits to the publisher.
They can re-release their old games.
Microsoft is not Nintendo or "Sega" (the past Sega) which are truly a Game Company (IMO), focus on games.
They dare to make something new(ShenMue, Gameboy), something ridiculous (Virtual Boy anyone?) just to make something that will give a new path to the game industries.
To make it simple, Microsoft started a path to "destroy" traditional game market. They want to take the industries to "All Digital" market. Just like what iTunes did to music industries. Yes it has good effects on this, but have you seen how many good CD music stores closed just because of it.

But now they just fighting to make a policy to gain maximum benefit without care about the game itself.

Oh boy, did PS4 conference just murdered XBOne (XBox One).
ReplyDeleteMan, I had never seen such enthusiastic applause and standing ovation of almost one minutes in total. The audience just love the announcement of non DRM, no online checking and support of used game by PS4.
For those who don't know, XBone come with quite a lot of consumer unfriendly restriction. Such as:
* 24-hour check in (if you are not connected, you can't used your console to play game AT ALL)
* Can't sell/lend used game, unless publisher approved it or going through all the hoops MS told you to
* Kinect is mandatory, it is sold together, and without it XBone wont' work
* Price: PS4 sells for $100 less than XBone (PS4: USD399, XBone: USD499)

I actually didn't plan to buy either console (I assumed Sony will go down the same DRM path as MS), but boy did Sony just proved me wrong, they got my trust by siding with gamers, and now they will got my money. I DEFINITELY gonna get a PS4 now.

ReplyDeleteThat brainstorming is over and done with: we now know exactly what we want to do.
This took quite a bit of time, but I predict things will progress much smoother for the remaining part of the comic.
A release this week is very unlikely, but it certainly won't be that much longer.
Expect a release after the initial hype for Shinra's upcoming new comic has calmed down a bit.

Though it's facepalm-worthy how they worded it that they "listened to the consumer"! >_<
Ah well, the new xbox just got promoted in my mindset from a "no way" console to a "well, maybe sometime later" console. I'll take the no-region-lock as a very juicy bonus in that case (already missing out on too many Japanese shmups!)
Ironically, I'm primarily considering a PS3 these days. When the PS4 launches, the PS3 will go down in price even more and I'll be able to finally have some games that turned out to be and remain PS exclusives.
The next gen console war can be as big and ruthless for all I care; I'll be sitting on the sideline enjoying my older games instead.

Most of Unreal engine characters are bulky, big, guy, with dirty skin.
Why they can't make a cute pretty girls with it? >_<
(Even Batman Arkham series don't have a pretty girl character, catwoman is sexy, but not so pretty IMHO hahaha)
I don't even like FPS games at all. I use the xbox mostly for arcade games like Pinball FX and Bejeweled and the like.
DeleteE3? Don't even have to watch it as none of those new games interest me at all, let alone make me decide which new console to buy.
In that regard, the life of a simple-minded retro-style gamer is easy, not having to worry about all the big blockbuster titles! ^_^

ReplyDeleteWell it will be a ps4 for me and i havent even bought a ps3 yeat. I have games for it but not the consol. Buying an xbox never have been a option for me and it wouldnt be in the near future either.
ReplyDeleteBut i have to get my self a job before the spring so i can uppgrade my computer and buy the witcher 3.
The two only flaws with the ps4 for me is, the price and the fact that i cant play my psx, ps2 our ps3 games on it.
