Hi, just updated the looks of my blogs, how is it? Love it?
For Tifa doujin, I'm sorry it'll be a little late, since I really haven't satisfied with the ending >_<

Well if it is a look you are satisfied with so go for it. Only comment on the layout i can give is that the progress bars is as depressed to look at as usual. xD

ReplyDeleteI'm surprised that with a theme of mind break/corruption, you chose such a "bright" setting. For my part I'd at least make the backgroud darker.
Also, it's harder to see what is the most recent of your post when we arrive on the first page.
Otherwise it's good except the fact that the progression bar could use a makeover too ^^

ReplyDeleteIt'll take me a while to get used to this, but if this works better than the last innovative makeover, I don't see why we shouldn't keep this look.
The way the various topics are all over the place on the homepage looks a bit messy though. It's not clear at all how the topics are lined up in order of age.
And I think the "popular posts" get too much of the spotlight while they're all older topics that aren't relevant anymore.
I think that dominant spot should go to the links to the main series: THAT is the most important thing, after all.
Speaking of which, the links in the headers do not work (yet?) for me.
So yes, good idea for this new look, but it still needs a little bit of tweaking.

DeleteGood, the headers now work as they should, and the links have also returned at their familiar spot on the right side (which makes the headers kind of pointless >_<).
ReplyDeleteNext you may want to put these links finally in a more sensible order, remove the Gaia 4 link (as it's weird to see one single seperate Gaia chapter linked and it leads to the old uncorrected version), and rename the appendix links so their purpose is more obvious.
I am really excited for the comic G9! I wait with the upmost baited breath!

I know that Hiro and Sophie is in the story of Gaiga but in the story was she talking about her past and that she kill her partners because he was not human anymore, so i was thinking that this story will told us in Shadow Rangers 0 because Shadow Rangers is the story befor Gaiga Rangers.

ReplyDeleteNow that the Tifa comic is almost done, it may be about time to reveal a bit about it.
Anonymous, you're basically spot on with your questions!
We'll learn about the origin of the Dark Emperor, who he is, and what made him that way. We'll learn more about Al and Alayeh, how they came into the picture, why they are helping the Dark Emperor. We'll learn about the reason the Dark Emperor resides in the elf palace.
We also have the story ready about why Lucian is in league with the Dark Emperor, and everything else that happened in the past with the elves, including the story behind the elf fragments and the murder of the elf king.
However, G9 didn't want this "Gaia-only" part of the story to be in "Shadow Rangers" 0, so it has been taken out of it.
I'm not sure how we will eventually release these parts of the story: if we use it as flashbacks in the main Gaia story or if it ever comes to a "Gaia Rangers 0".
Maybe all of you would like to voice your opinions on this? (No guarantees that we'll do it your way, sorry.)
Imagine it like this: in the past, certain events took place that led to the "birth" of the bad guys. They took place in the "normal civilized" world, but the elf community also had to do with it.
After this, events continued to unfold in the human world, but at the same time, all sorts of things happened in the elf world.
So to learn the whole story, you'd need to see it from both sides.
My question is: would you prefer to have the whole story in one complete package, even though there will be all sorts of scenes in it that have nothing to do with the history of the Shadow Rangers?
Or would you prefer to have 2 different books for this, both showing one side of the story, which makes the title make more sense?
We have the impression that, so far, there is less demand to know about the elves, that Lucian is not so popular etc.
But we never asked this directly to all of you.
So there you have it. If anyone wants to share his/her thoughts about it, please feel free to do so.
Do know that I'm asking this question without asking G9 first so he may be all "WTF?" when he reads this! >_<

DeleteI'm not an anonymous sadly, but I'll still give my opinion on this subject ^^
To start developing the Emperor character is a great idea (the same for Al and Alayeh).
I really want to know more about his origins and how he became who he is (the same for the saxy ladies accompanying him of course). I hope he wasn't an evil person to begin with, but more of an average one with just small traits of character that would lead him ,through circumstances and his own choices, to become the indeniably cool and badass corrupter of pure souls he is today.
In a way he is your most recurrent and recognizable character and "hero", it's time to give him some more depth !
About the elfs and the other plot points relating to them, I think it can work. At first I didn't mind but wasn't that interested in that plot. It looked pretty messy and strangely out of place with how I pictured the "ranger's world" until now . Still, if they are at the origin of the supernatural aspect in this world, the base of the technologie of the rangers and the power of the Emperor, then it's important to introduce them as soon as possible and make them an inherent part of the story. So...to my opinion don't separate the elf-world's stories and the human-world stories but make them articulate around each other.
That's all. : )
PS: Mpgrey, you will never have the occasion to work on "Shadow Rangers 0" if G9 dies of a stroke so...go to work !!

First of, I think the new page looks very good G9. The UI feels a bit futuristic, maybe a bit too much for my taste, but I'm sure I could grow used to it. I like the colours, they represent your take on corruption very well I think G9. It practically oozes of animé/FF-inspiration. ;)
Speaking of FF, I read your Tifa comic. Gj! The renders and scenes were incredibly high quality, and the story and plot were a good notch higher than those you usually write. I think I must throw a bone to Mpgrey here, it seems like his help has really pushed you to a limit break (pun intended :P). Anyway, kudos to the both of you. My hat is off, you've published a really a very high quality production!
Now for the Ranger bit you were discussing here, I suggest you actually drop it and start anew. Use this chance to make a "remake of the universe" and cut the "bonds" to the stories you've told in the previous comics. (Unless ofc, you have already started and put work into it.)
I don't mean to sound overly harsh, but the way you're renders and story-telling has evolved over the year(s?) makes it kinda difficult to understand how the world has evolved and how the timeline is laid out. I think it will require a lot of work to tie everything together neatly, and even so there are plenty of plot holes that I doubt you can cover up.
Now ofc you don't have to do that. It's been a good while since I read any of those comics so I might be very wrong about what I said, and in that case I apologize, but it might be worth to think about.
Anyways, I think going with the "Dark Emperor" as the main protagonist is a very good idea and a fresh take on the Ranger comics. It will allow you to really flesh out his personality and give you a chance to show just what the "dark-side" is (is he a lone ruler? Is there a council of other evil rulers? Is he possessed? etc.) and what their goals are. I fear it might take a lot of 'origin-writing' to make much sense, but on the other hand it will probably be a interesting read. In the best of worlds his creation and the creation of the Shadow Rangers should intertwine, and if you could make it into one story that'd be great. Maybe swap perspective between two protagonists? Make them have a symbolic chess match (play in their minds etc)? It would be cool in my opinion if the Evil Emperor was once a Shadow Ranger himself, but was thrown out and has vowed revenge. (It would explain his obsession...)
Ohh, and I don't really like the elves. I never really read those comics that much, because I found them strangely out of place. I understand you want them to represent a spiritual part of the world, much like a spirit world or "twin world", but the fact is you made them very un-spiritual, in my opinion.

Hopefully you won't have to worry about the origins story. We have a good idea about how to weave both of the stories together to form one coherent story that explains everything it needs to explain.
It surprised me how easy it was to do this actually: there are already plenty of little tidbits in both of the series that were usable as guidelines.
I don't understand what you mean when you say you never really read the comics about the elves though. We're basically only talking about the dream scene in Gaia 4, and many of the scenes in Gaia 5: those have been the only appearances of anything related to the elf world (except Lucian's previous appearnaces in the earlier Gaia issues.) I hope you didn't skip Gaia 4 and 5 for this reason?

Just a matter of days, guys (yeah, I've been saying that a lot lately).
G9 only needs to make a few more pictures and send them to me. Then I can adjust the text, send it back, he'll replace the text, send the pages back to me so I check if all the corrections have been done without causing other mistakes, send the "thumbs up" signal back to him, and THEN the whole thing can be uploaded.
That's how we work. A lot of back and forth e-mailing as you can see and because of the completely different time zones we live in, THAT is what's causing all those extra days of waiting.
