Something that maybe for other people are called "weird". I think furry is weird, but for furry fans it's not.
All I can think "rationally" is... smoking is something we associated with something... naughty, bad. And when a girl that we first thought naive go smoking, you know there's something corrupted there, that simple... IMHO...

I said that it's weird but I didn't mean by that, that it disturbs me. It's totally neutral to me. You almost sound apologetic for introducing this motive in this comic G9 ;P

I have to admit though that I find furries even weirder. Again I would like to know how did this fetsish came to be.
Anything can be a fetish for some people, no matter absurd others think it is. I think it's impossible to discover the origins of most fetishes, especially when they seemingly have no relation at all to anything sexually-related (ryona, gore, necrophilia, vomiting, vore anyone?) It just clicks for you or not.

The apologetic tone in G9's post comes from previous experiences where some other readers had a very hard time accepting the smoking fetish. On Shinra's blog, it even got pretty unfriendly following the release of Yoru no Majin.
This upcoming comic has a big focus on the sexualizing of smoking, in accordance with the commissioner's request. A reader who is turned off by this fetish and cannot look past it will automatically have a hard time liking the erotic scenes in this comic.
In that regard, we know that not everyone will like the comic as much as when this particular fetish (or any uncommon particular fetish for that matter!) had not been included.
On the other hand, it's also possible that it is an eye-opener for some. All (unusual) fetishes work that way: you first need to be introduced to it by accidentally seeing it somewhere before you realize that you like something that you were never aware of.
Fact is I don't have any special feeling toward this fetish. I just think that it needs to be adressed in the comic. This time it's not like transformation/impregnation/mind break etc, that fit into the storyline naturaly. It's very specific and not related to corruption.

Honestly the guy paid for his comic he can do whatever he wants with it.
I'm just thinking that it's easier for other readers if the fetish is quickly explained in the story.

DeleteEarlier today, G9 surprised both the commissioner and me with an updated version of the comic, having added 15 pages to the story (replacing the only weak part of the comic with something superior). An unexpected, but still great improvement that is a nice bonus. All that's left on the graphics side is a cover page.
I still need to discuss a bit with the commissioner to work out the details for some lines of text, but my own job is nearing completion too.
Unfortunately, I won't have much time to spare during the weekend and that is true for G9 as well.
So I'm afraid we won't be able to get it ready earlier than tuesday. Not because we still need 4 days of work, but because of lack of time the coming days.
Is the red eyes and the Smoking the only changed of the corruption character?

ReplyDeleteI am gonna come out and help G9 and Mpgrey a bit here and tell you guys a little more to help you understand. I am the one who commissioned the comic.
I know the number one question that is always around is this: why smoking? Here is the basic answer I can give. The premise is first that in my stories smoking symbolizes corruption. Corruption of mind, corruption of soul, and corruption of body. It is a stigma that society and individuals see as something impure and usually disgusts. Now take this ideal and apply it to an individual. If an individual has certain values, part of the corruption is to see these bend and break, transform into something else. Has anyone here ever seen a girl who is beautiful, pure in their eyes, maybe you see her enough to know or believe she is not into smoking or is very conscious of her habits and keeps her body...clean per say. Now imagine this. You witness a man come along, and before your eyes he introduces her to smoking, makes her take habits of impure stigmas. To witness this girl who was pure now absorbed into the habits smoking and being a mindless portrait of whoever controls her...that is part of the smoking fetish.
Second part is....it is simply because it is a fetish. It is a fetish because smoking is like a stigma. Now if you smoke there is nothing wrong with you. You aren't evil or bad because of it. Simply put the imagery is strong. Something by the way they hold it, the way they drag and exhale, the way they look with it in their mouths as their eyes glazed over in hypnotic entrancement. The act is basically a symbol, the image a visual stimuli. To know that, as a person who has this fetish, the female is giving into my desires, giving into the stigma and corrupting her body for me as she gives me her all....that is where you are missing the link. Ask this. Everyone here has a fetish of course. But can anyone here convince each other why their fetish is so amazing? Can anyone here explain and prove why complete transformations are hot? The basic core of any argument is this one fact. All fetishes are seen by the eye of the beholder, and all fetishes are pleasurable when we see another engage in or become part of our fetish. We are engaged because it has become reality. Our fantasies in our minds are now physical. That is the same as my smoking fetish. But my smoking fetish is nothing without a bit of hypnosis and mind control, which is my main fetish. Does this explain it a bit better?
In the end, it is because the villain wants it to be. When you have that kind of control to do anything, you do whatever you want, and whatever pleases you. It came to be simply because I, and my villains therefore, desire to see a woman engage in the visual stigma that is to me a corruption to the body and an addiction that controls ones mind just as subliminally as mind control with its addiction. And no, I don't smoke, and I actually hate it when men do it. I like only beautiful woman, because of the purity of the body and the draw to corrupt them into a web of my desires.
Also, as for transformation, this comic I went for more subliminal and underlining corruption. No radical change. I wanted and like to see them less radicial and more...well it goes the same mindset as smoking. Staring at the same person you have seen millions of times, looking the same, same beauty and same personality...but a bit of a twist. Now they smoke...they didn't do that before....now they find interest and humor in odd things they didn't before....now they feel different behind those eyes. Like an Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The best change is the one we cannot immediately see. A conversion....in the purest form...internally.

DeleteI just wanted to say that, even though your response is an interesting view on corruption, I hope you don't feel like you have to justify yourself.
I personally really liked Yoru no Majin (I think it was one of your commissions?). There was some great ideas, a very sexy heroines with just as sexy "money" scenes (= G9's name for sex scenes :-P ), a well done and progressive domination then corruption...
A lot of themes very close to my heart. ;-)
The one thing to remember is that all fetishes need to be introduced while making at least a little sense in the story, just so that the reader isn't lost/confused.
Yoru no Majin was only made "stranger" because the cigarette came out of nowhere. Indeed, nowhere before had there been mention of the villain's taste for "forcing" the habbit upon women.
If the villain had explained that he liked his women smoking those, that would have been a lot smoother.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the Tower of Sin was a building "out of time and space". If so, then the villain could have said that he got them during a trip to 19th century France and that he enjoyed seeing women during that time submitting to a mode closely linked with sexuality and created by men as a way to get into women's pants at the time.
This last one was just an example of how to put your fetish in the comic and make it work for your story. If you don't like it, I'm sure there would have been other way to do so.
What I'm sure of, is that I can't wait to read your comic. It looks great and I've got no doubt I'll enjoy it.

DeleteMany times a fetish simply cannot be written away to make sense, mostly because there is always going to come that question why? It is important to note that ALL fetishes are subject to this. Many times during transformation scenes where the character undergoes a complete u-haul I just ask why is it necessary? Why do that? What point is there for a corruption to be made into such a radical morph? To be evil? What is evil? This comic might not answer why. Even if I explained it away as much as "he likes it" I know the internet will ask..."why does he like it?" I guess the better question is...why do you think he likes them to smoke? Now, I play around with this idea alot. Since I one day would like to make a Japanese movie based on hypnosis, smoking, etc, why would they do it? There I have a little more reason to push a logic that makes some links, since we take it out of one time comic. Maybe the villain in the movie worked at a tobacco company and wanted people to get hooked on it? Maybe he believes the stigmas of the world should be the normality of the world? But if I come right out and say it, it loses power. Often than not, ask yourself why it is happening and see what logic you guys come up with. On my end, the core rational of "he does it because he wants to see it done" may sound lazy but every comic must be seen from the viewers eyes as well as their mind. Plus, smoking isn't highlighted for a reason. It is a tag upon which to draw symbolism rather than idealism.
DeleteAs for Yoru, I wish I could have changed the pace at which Shinra was working on it. Unfortunately, while I love discussions, the feedback given last time hampered the issue. While it isn't gone, too much time was lost and interest spent at launch because people wanted to point out the flaw. To note confusion, I had planned many issues for the comic, and I answered all those questions down the line of the comics. I was very proud of my story, because I pushed new logic and gave so much thought and energy. Since I really don't know what will happen with my comic, the basic thing I can tell you is that I would have explained it all and even though it would have been a "WHAAAAAAAAAAAA" moment it would have an answer for the smoking. The tower isn't a time traveling tower. It is a timeless tower. Difference is the tower exists within time itself but not outside the time period it is resting in. In time, idealism exists, and so does every known concept, idea, possibility, and symbolical stigma both good and bad. The key to the tower is that everyone has been thinking too simple...and the tower is more than that. The story I developed was designed to even tug at things philosophy teachers never talked about. It was going to make you cum and then going to make you think lol, or vice versa...whatever your into. The tower exists but it only exists because we exist...and our existence is what keeps the tower alive. Thus, no the France idea couldn't work.
Why smoking? Well let me ask, why is smoking bad? When you answer that, let me ask you why is your reasoning behind your answer proving its bad? Upon that answer, let me ask why does your previous answer exist? Upon that answer I ask a big question. Why is bad universally bad? What gives the words meaning that give your thoughts meaning? If you think the smoking didn't fit why did it bother you? Why was it something you couldn't accept? Most likely because it didn't make sense, and no sense is a knowledge that we cannot comprehend...because in the end we cannot define why good is good and bad is bad, why pleasant exists as anything in any form and why concept itself of any word, feeling, emotion, or act reflections upon a thought process we have no idea of. We are human beings physically bond to a mass of matter made up of conscious thought that defines individuality that we cannot understand because every word we have ever known has been taught but not understood by our minds. We can say good is good because it makes us feel happy and good inside. But what is happy and what is good? Why do they mean what they mean? That emotion that is felt, the one that had to be labeled by a physical word, what is that emotion when you examine it in its rawest form? Its an idea...but where does that idea come from when there is no idea to draw from in the beginning.
DeleteWhew...talked too much. But that is the logic behind it. Smoking is there because I want it there...but there is a purpose I want it there....and it was going to be explained and has yet to be.
I will leave you with this. Yoru, this commission, and all the works G9, Shinra, and any other artist out there has done whether it have smoking or not....in my universe I am trying to build, they are ALL connected. I am not writing and showing you just a shallow pond my friends. If you look at what I said as trying to piece them in the same timeline and world you won't find the answer. That is because the answer is something you never thought about before...and if Shinra ever finishes Yoru, it is an answer you will never forget about again :)
I'm not sure I really got it. But I still think that giving a "the villain likes it" line of dialog might fit well and calm people. :-P

Hahaha, actually it is :). It was my first anime/hentai based comic. That one could fit into my rant, but vaguely. That time I was just doing it cause I wanted to make my fanfic come to life lol. It was published because I was open to share it with people. The commissioner is amazing and her prices were very affordable. We been in talks to do a Persona 4 comic, Samus Aran and Nintendo comic, Naruto Part II, or a Bible Black/Inyouchuu spin off Gaiden story. Just haven't had cash for it.
DeleteTrust me there is a reason. I can't control if people break out of it unfortunately, I hope they can come along for the ride and like it for what it is. I know there is plenty of commissions done by many people out there that have their fetishes I can't quite understand or like. However I like them for what it is. I personally dislike the robotization comics, but I can find some appeal even if I hate it. I ask just for an open mind and to enjoy what I want to bring to the table in a way where even if you don't like it, you at least can say "its a good comic but not in my realm of main fetishes". Hypnosis and Mind Control is a good faucet to other fetishes I find, you never know :)

DeleteThe newer Violet (Off Color Blue) that we did finish is complete and won't get a direct sequel.
In other words, if there ever comes a new Violet comic, it will be a brand new story.

Whoa, those suggestions are problematic already because of the graphical style. Don't forget that the DAZ rendering software needs to be able to make characters look like themselves before it has a chance to work out.

The "comic" with the nuns never was a comic at all, but an idea for a visual novel-style game. This project (it was a commission) has been cancelled because it just was way too much work for a single person to make. He may have a 9 in his name, but G9 is still just one person. ^^

All I ever got of Resident Evil were just 9 pages. They weren't bad but were nothing more than showing Jill in a bit of action. I think G9 jumped the gun a bit here, having plans to make a comic around Jill before realizing that he didn't have a story in mind that he could make work with his software and his skills at the time.
DeleteThe 9 pages don't contain much more than the teaser pictures that were put here on the blog, so you have basically seen everything already.
The earliest I expect the new comic to be ready is on tuesday, but wednesday wouldn't surprise me at all if we don't want to rush the last parts (and we don't want to rush.)
Should be ready soon. As for the RE comic...I am all for writing one. I been open to Mpgrey and G9 to write one for them. But I want to also respect G9 in his own pursuit of his comic love and the Rangers series. As such, if they get stuck I am always willing to jump in and make something since writing is my hobby. I also respect that I cannot be main stage all the time. So I am here if they wish to pursue that. This comic coming is something I been poking at with G9 for a while. Finally we found something to make both of us happy and it will be interesting. Say what you wish about my fetishes and story telling, G9 knows how to make quality pictures and a story that is flush with a vivid world.

I think you are talking about the plans to release the SR0-1 deleted scene?
DeleteIf so, than you have misunderstood what it is. It is not a new version of anything. Instead it was a scene (a big one, 30 pages) that used to be part of the comic for a very short while, but we decided to take it out and replace it with a different scene (part of the comic as you know it).
So we've been sitting here all this time with 30 pages that were not good enough to be released as a part of the normal story, but are good enough to be some sort of "What if?" scene.
One thing that we are NOT going to do is release it together with part 2. If we do that, it will only get confusing and people may mistakenly think that it is a replacing scene instead of a replaced scene (just this explanation already gets confusing! >_<)
If we do release it, it will be its own 30 pages upload.
Okay, people. Before anyone is going to ask:

Reason? Same as so often: timezones.
It's really just a matter of getting some answers for some final small questions, then work them into the text, and then getting a final judging from Dark Hypnotic.
Conflicting timezones will push the release to wednesday (if none of us loses internet access or gets run over by a car).
You'll be glad to know, btw, that the reason for these continued small questions is that G9 has suddenly put a few more extra pages in the comic to improve a scene he was not fully satisfied with.
So while waiting sucks, the comic has gotten better (and bigger) as a result.
More scenes? Sounds good to me ;-)
