Bad news.

Yeah, not joking here, my hard drive which hold all the files for the comic is dead,
and I don't have any backups, at all...

Yeah it would be bad,

Really bad.

I've called the technician, and he said it's basically RIP,  DAMN YOU SEAGATE!!!

G9comics would be on a long hiatus now, or maybe for good, since it would take a very long
time to do from a scratch again...

  1. Dude...I'm so so so sorry. I Don't really know what to say, it happened to me like a month ago but I had a massive backup.

I maybe am the only one who can understand such a loss and I want you to know that I'm here for you and will support you in any way. I know it must be really hard for you but Don't give up. Did you try Some software recovery ? Recuva worked good for me.

And in the worst case, I know very well what I have in my database and I easily recognise model face, clothes and props. We can work together to try to rebuilt your database with mine.

Again, I want you to know that we are supporting you and won't let G9 disappear.

  2. OMG, I am so sorry to hear that.

Is there anything we can help?

I am certainly more than happy to donate too, and help you get back on your feet.

    1. Hi, thank you.

But no, it's not just the money, but everything I've done was there... T_T

  3. If money's not really a problem, you could try a professional data recovery service, like http://gillware.com/ (in gillware's case, you can review the recovered files online before you pay, so you know what you pay for)

    1. If G9 goes with this, I will step in for the bill.

  4. I am very sorry to hear this news.

I had a similar problem with a Siemens HD a few years ago but I was able to rescue most of my data with a program called "testdisk". Although windows did not recognize the hd anymore, that program did and I could copy the data to another Hard Drive.
Maybe you could google for "testdisk".

I really hope you can save at least some of your data.

  6. Still no luck so far, I'm afraid.

Technicians can't get it to work either.

  7. That is incredibly bad news, as some of the others posted there are various recovery tools that depending on what happened may help get some of the information back, while I'm sure the technician may have tested if your using a windows or mac OS you could see if you can salvage some data using Linux, have at times in the past managed to varying degrees of success managed to retrieve some information from a hdd that windows no longer recognised.

    1. Hi, Ogre (wow i have an ogre fans here... >_<)

The problem is not the software, I've bring that damn hard disk to lots of technician today, I even take a day off today...
And mostly give up on the first hand, why?
The hard disk is mainly broken, can't spin, can read can't do anything, just like a brick.
Some say it's because the PCB, and when we tried to change the PCB, nothing, so it's the disk it self.
One can try to fix it, but I think it's just a ripoff...
almost about $1000 - $1500, and no guarantee it will work and even 0% that all the files back,
Because they say there is a fracture? on the disk surface or something.
They said it's broken way before I use it, maybe it's factory fault, or even when the delivery error.
I said everything is normal before the day it went nut.
I can hear the spinning like a helicopter and suddenly stop, my PC hang, and that's it.
      He can't answer that.
So, maybe even if I put it on the LInux or everything it would be useless, since the HD it self is already gone...dead...overkill...
Even elixir/potion/ phonenix down can't save it, just like Aerith...
Yeah I'm joking because I've been stress all the day.

    2. I can completely understand, I've seen it happen on occasion myself. The disc heads inside the drive can fail on rare occasions with no previous warning signs. In that case there really isn't much that can be done to recover the data. You could potentially salvage the drive by replacing some internal components, but it's not cheep and if you don't know what you're doing you will make the situation worse.

In regards to my comment about Linux, it may not do anything, especially if the drive head has failed because the information cannot be read from the drive. But because Linux doesn't have the same requirements for formatting that windows does (it's not quite as picky) you may be able to view some information. As I said previously I have on occasion managed to recover some information from a drive that a windows PC just would not read and caused issues with windows booting up.

  8. I am going thru the same thing. To retrieve data will cost around $350 to $1200. When I can afford it, I am going to start using raid.

  9. hi g9 sorry to hear about your hard drive fucking up! please let it be fixable and if not please dont give up for good! gaia rangers needs an ending! i would pay for it and imsure most of your other fans would as well!

  10. Totally understand. I broke my harddrive twice, once dropped my laptop on ground, once a hard-cover book fall directly on my laptop from bookshelf. Anyway, it's hard to recover physical harm to hard-drive, but I guess it's easy to recover logical harm, and professionals can do either. But it's extremely expensive. And make sure to have backup next time, just like Shinra-kun!

  11. Allow me to update you guys about the current situation.

G9 has pretty much given up on his hard drive. It's just too damaged, the data on it is lost.

However, it is not the end of g9comics!!!!

He made this topic when it had just happened, so he was feeling as miserable as possible at the time.

We're a couple of days further now and anger, panic, and apathy have been replaced by hope and motivation.

He is getting back on track. A new hard drive has been ordered. A couple of dlc upgrades for the 3d program he uses have already been bought (again).
So nobody needs to fear that this was the end of everything.

It'll take a very long time to rebuild all of his models again, but it's not top priority that he does all that first before working on new comics again.
After all, he'll only need the models (for now) for the particular comic(s) he'll be working on. The rest can wait.

So while everything has taken a serious step back, it -may- not mean that you guys have to wait that much longer until a next comic is released.
Of course, this whole situation does mean that all progress bars at the top right of this blog are basically empty again.
That's one big blow that we just cannot fix.

There is one last thing I'd like to mention, no matter how uncomfortable I feel about it:
If any of you had been considering to donate some money to help g9 get his stuff back together, now would be a very good time.
Forgive me for asking this question, but G9 will never ever ask this on his own (understandably).
Naturally, nobody needs to feel obliged to pay anything. We won't think any less of you. But if you feel like helping out, it would be welcome.

@G9: please don't delete this post because of that question.
This question comes from me, not from you.
Allow people at least the chance to do something back for you, okay? ^_^
