ReplyDeleteG9 I must commend you on your work based on the third queen image you have posted here. The 2 girls in that photo I believe have showed your considerable progress as an artist and I think it is a huge breakthrough.
Previously, for most of your corruption, the eyes of the characters turns into various colors and have gas/liquid spewing out of them. This isn't exactly bad but I think with this new image, it shows that you have one more avenue to play with which is the soul-less eyes which I can't recall that you have done or have done well before because it doesn't strike my memory.
Very few artists are able to achieve this competently. Many animes can do this with their characters and I believe that this improvement marks your capability and commitment which clearly shows in your progress in skill and proficiency at creating such works.

About the newest pictures with the queen: We'd like to hear your opinion again.
ReplyDeleteThe queen (and the girls in the last picture) have been made with Genesis 3 models. This is a more advanced base model compared to Genesis 2 models and Victoria 4 models that have been used so far in all our comics.
Visitors from Shinra's blog may recall that he is facing the same issues. We have all these established characters that have been made with older software while newer software is available. We'd obviously like to play around with the newest gimmicks, but it would mean to all current existing models need to be recreated from scratch. Not only is that annoying because it takes a lot of time, but each model will also always look different than how we remember them. That's the difference that is caused by the superior software.
We have chosen to keep using the older models for pretty much all returning characters. The queen is an exception though. She hasn't had all that much screentime so far, so she makes a good excuse to upgrade to a Genesis 3 model.
That's what G9 has done and you can see the result above. Tell us if she is acceptable like this or if there is some detail that you consider important enough to be changed. She will never look exactly like she did in Gaia 5 again, so keep in mind that we're not gunning for an exact copy, but instead for a revamped version that is (more than) acceptable and gives the same feeling and impression.
Her details are definitely more distinct, and in time i hope all models have this quality but right now i think most of us just want the comic XD. The old models looks good enough.

It is indeed the same dilemma that I'm facing mainly with Fallen Star, where there's the will to keep the character's appearance the same from beginning to the end, but which means working with very old 3D models since I've created all of them a very long time ago, and on the other side, start using genesis 3 models that look so much better.

DeletePerhaps you could use Genesis model 3 for the new corrupted rangers (Mei, Sophie, Leona etc) Using it on already corrupted rangers like Mimi and Emma I feel would be a huge risk though because they already look so good and matching it would be difficult

DeleteDespite announcing that we would pick Gaia next at the end of march, we still couldn't actually start on the comic (the actual story, not the character design) due to various circumstances until august.
DeleteBut even in this small period of actually working on it, it's coming along pretty swiftly. So let's keep our fingers crossed that G9 will continue to have reasonable time and a working computer, and then it will be finished sooner than even we are suspecting.

The setting, the lighting, the shadow, the models all look so much better than ever even when compared to your last work in SR-0.
The golden floor with the floral pattern looks absolutely stunning and immaculate.
The queen merely serves as icing on the cake in such a beautiful backdrop.

DeleteI tried to use "path tracing" on every single render I use on this comic, the problem is, it took longer time to get the picture done than the normal "direct lighting".
I still use Octane render tho'.
Just using different rendering kernel type.
And, yes, I re-model almost all of the models I use on this one too. That's why this project is the biggest for me and mpgrey ever made >_<
Looks like the queen is really getting alot of screen time this chapter. Is gaia 6 focused on her? She looks like shes about to participate in a ritual. Its another red haired girl in the robes too, is she the same one as above? Or someone else?

DeleteAh, here is the million Dollar question again.
DeleteWe cannot give an answer to this because we honestly don't know. We don't have complete storyboards in advance (unlike Shinra) where everything is carefully worked out. Instead, we add new pages on the go. New ideas are being formed while we're turning other ideas into pages.
We'll see eventually how big this chapter will end up.
So far, I have seen 31 completed pages but more have already been made, so that is already outdated information.
From the images there seems to be at least 300+ pictures rendered. Do you stop when you feel like it? Or do you work on the go until a certain point. Basically only your end point is determined and everything between is on the go
DeleteIt's a bit of all that you mention actually. We have certain events in mind that at least need to happen, but we don't have any idea how long it takes (how many pages) to get there. If we get there too soon and the entire chapter doesn't feel like a complete package yet, we add more. Usually though, it's the other way around: in order to get to the planned final scene, so many events need to happen first that it makes the chapter grow to the big size that we tend to end up with.
DeleteShadow Ranger Zero is a good example. SR0-2 needed to at least contain Megan's true corruption, but various events needed to happen earlier during that day. At the same time in the parallel dimension, Drake & co also needed to get to the same point in time.
Most of these events were planned from the start but not in their correct order. It's only during the actual making that the entire story starts to fall into place.
It'll most certainly go like this with Gaia 6 as well. We have plenty of events in mind that could occur in Gaia 6. We have plenty of events in mind that need to wait until Gaia 7 because SR0-3 needs to be made first. We'll discover naturally if Gaia 6 feels "right" to be released, if more needs to be added to make the chapter more exciting, or if content can be left for Gaia 7 in order to boost that chapter and release Gaia 6 sooner.
No worries! Just don't end off with Sophie's bottom half plant corruption! It's going to kill me LOL (it already did in the teaser but since GAIA 6 is coming soon, I can wait for it!)
