Happy New Year!
That's all, all the renders I have done for this "craziest" comic I've ever done.
I've changed at least 3 major scenes, make 2 endings, and lots I mean LOTS of renders.
You can check them one by one >_<
It has a maximum 5 times repetition on that pics.
Can you find 5 the same pictures on that pic? (@_@) kiddin'
If everything is goes smoothly, maybe the comic will be released soon, but! If something stupid happened again?
Hope not... >_<
Last but not least...
Happy New Year, GNiners!
Now, I really need some sleep after rendering all day long... >_<
See ya!

yes a Happy New Year
ReplyDeleteso wait, the comic is all done and now we're just waiting on the upload???
ReplyDeleteNonono...that would be an unfortunate misunderstanding.
DeleteThese are "only" the renders he has done so far.
G9 has spent all day yesterday and today working on the final scene and some other odds 'n ends (such as a very good-looking cover).
I received the new version earlier today and already wrote my feedback email.
We're still not entirely there yet. An important part of the final scene still needs to be more epic and memorable. In addition to that, the only other thing I asked for was one fairly simple other page.
So in other words, we have gotten a little closer to the finish line again, but it's not yet ready to be uploaded. At the moment, I'd say it's just 2 or 3 pages that still need work on them, that's really all that's left. Trust us to keep working on it!
Do we have a rough estimate on when it will be uploaded? A week from now or a few days?
DeleteProbably a few days. If they are working on it that hard it will be done within the next few days.
DeleteReleased soon is a little ambiguous though
DeleteIt is ambiguous, but it's also the only thing we can say that won't end up a disappointment again.
DeleteI would so much like to be able to give you a date, but it always turns out something unexpected happens.
For example, just now I discovered a continuity error where one person is suddenly wearing a completely different shirt in two pictures. And that happens in pictures I studied a hundred times already! -_- (Relatively simple pictures to be made again, so it's no big deal, fortunately.)
I'm the guy who, half a year ago, expected to make both SR0 (the whole story) AND Gaia 6 before the end of the year... Oh boy, was I stupid!
I've been wrong with my optimistic predictions so often so it may be better to keep the expected release date as "really, really soon".
That bar on the right showing 98% is no lie. It won't go down or anything. We're so close...
This 2% is certainly extremely annoying. It has seen 2 postponement D: (b4 Xmas>b4 2014) and (b4 2014>after 2014) This sucks...
ReplyDeleteI understand your feeling dear Anonymous.
DeleteIt's not just you who feel that way, me, myself and mp feel the same too, even more.
What we want to do is to deliver the comic at the highest standard as I can.
That's why it keeps "postponed" again and again.
I've re- rendered lots of screen just because I'm not satisfied with the results.
No matter what, I admit this is my mistakes. I'm truly sorry about this.
Hope the end result will make you feel better. Hope so.
I sincerely apologize for this mess.
Anon#2 here, I can appreciate your regrets and disappointment. It is frustrating for all. What I would recommend is to do away with the status bar altogether and refrain from making promises of when future releases would be. It is better to be surprised by a release then to expect it and be disappointed. Keep the updates coming and fill us in with teasers, but the anticipated release dates are maddening. I would give this advice to Shinra Kun as well. The self-imposed deadlines only add undo pressure on you the creators. They do help promote excitement and expectation for the coming release but it is lost if the deadline passes. Your teasers create this same sense of expectation and excitement and there is no downside.
DeleteSo please, surprise us. You don't owe us a deadline, so take your time and work at your leisure. This is your hobby and gift. It isn't worth the stress that I imagine these deadlines have created.
Thank you very much for your kind words! You present a very good idea by recommending to get rid of the status bars.
DeleteIn the not so distant past when G9 was still working on many different titles at the same time, the bars were helpful to keep track of everything that was going on, but now that we're just working on one single title, the bars have not much more to tell than we can do in our replies.
Getting rid of the bars will likely mean a lot of "How far are you?" questions, and since not everyone reads everything in a thread, there may be more "how-far-are-you's" than we'd like.
Still, it's a good idea well worth to consider.
It certainly doesn't feel good to have to admit that we failed to reach yet another self-imposed deadline.
And with all the anticipation generated by this endless wait, there is no way in hell that the comic can live to the astronomical expectations, no matter how good it (hopefully) turns out to be.
This has only gone on so long because the comic kept becoming bigger and bigger. It should have been online long ago. We have reached the end of the long tunnel. Today too was a productive day.
All that's left is getting two or three pages right. Finding a balance between not going all out but without making the scene forgettable. If we get that right, we're done.
Once again, thank you for your trust and support!
Sigh. ;(
ReplyDeleteI am fine with g9 and mpgrey decision to postpone it. :)
DeleteIf you asked me are they professional?
Nope, they are not. But they absolutely do their best.
Mp I quote your saying, "a balance between not going all out but without making the scene forgettable". I hope I am not taking it out of context but this is a little worrisome because going all out for an author is how he pushes his limit and constantly improve. I understand that this is just part 1 of the series but nonetheless the corruption and transformation of every individual character will be unique so I think there is no need to hold back. Moreover, even though it is just part 1 of the series, but there will still be a climax and I truly think pushing the limit in terms of storyline and design is the way to go. In my opinion, the balance you mentioned does not need to be achieved as if the scene is good, it will not be forgettable. Thus by going all out to make the scene good would remove the need for you and G9 spending time and worrying about it being forgettable.
ReplyDeletePlease do not misinterpret this as the story requiring many climaxes, my point is just don't hold back in any way when creating a comic and I am sure together with constructive criticism G9 and you will continue to improve and creating brilliant comics.
P.S: this might come a little late since the current comic is 98% done but food for thought on your next instalment :D
Thanks for your thoughts.
DeleteNormally I would 100% agree with you. It's just that in this specific case, it's necessary for the story to not go "all out" yet, otherwise we'll get into trouble in part2 to make certain things believable.
G9 and myself also concluded that it's actually easier to simply go all out, but unfortunately, that "brake" is really necessary here.
The latest version I had received had this particular case toned down too much though. When I read it, I had feelings like "Oh, is this all?" and that is a clear sign the scene wasn't good enough. So that's why a small part of this last remaining scene is still all that's left to do.
We don't want to set a story up brilliantly(?), only to follow it up with a lackluster disappointment, I'm sure everyone will agree.
Since it is only a small part of a single scene which you had sent back to G9 for correction, that means SR0 part 1 is done and will be uploaded by today or tomorrow right?
ReplyDeleteNot as simple as that, unfortunately.
DeleteIt's sort of a puzzle to get the entire scene together with bits and pieces of the old version pasted together with glue from the new pics. Does that make sense? >_<
I'll try to keep as much of the old version usable for the final cut. While writing, I'll come across problems eventually such as pics turning out to be unneeded or pics not matching with the dialogue. G9 already made some backup pictures so he'll see if everything can finally fit together.
I don't want to bore anyone further with all the specifics. It's a tough job only because the scene is so vital so it's very important to get this one right.
With that said, I'll continue writing right now. If you'll excuse me... ^_^
A little bit late, but happy new year for you too
ReplyDeleteThanks Xhion. All the best to you too. Hopefully your year will be full of great G9 releases!
DeleteI am really sorry that this comic is giving the both of you so many problems but can we know how long more the release will be dragged as since you are so close to the finish line with only minor touch ups required, you should be able to determine accurately when it can be uploaded
ReplyDeleteYesterday was a good, productive day as well.
DeleteI have now done the dialogue for about 66% of the last scene until I ran into expected problems.
That means that at least all those pages that I did, can be kept.
I was also able to give G9 very precise pointers to what should be done with the remaining pages. The remaining pages we're talking about are now 6 in total, but that may end up being 4 or 5 because the entire scene could be a little bit shorter to let things flow better. I offered G9 multiple suggestions for the remaining pages.
Because I never say "THIS is what we're gonna do!" but instead say "We could do this, or how about doing this?" I do not yet know at this moment which pictures are going to stay, which will be taken out, and which will be adapted.
Therefore, at this moment, I'll just have to wait for new pages.
That's the problem that comes with being almost done: I cannot do everything else in the meantime anymore, because that's all ready. Now we're constantly waiting for each other and because we live in completely different timezones, that's all not going as smoothly as if we had been neighbours.
That's the story for today. I don't mind answering these questions because it's understandable that you guys are starting to wonder how frickin' long it takes to deal with the last 2%.
If fortune smiles upon us, the next update I get is the correct one. Then it's just a matter of touching up the dialogue for those last pages, send them to G9, wait for him to implement the changes, receive the entire package again, check if all the changes are correctly done while giving it one last check, give green light...and then it's upload time.
Sounds like a lot of steps, but those last few steps can be done quite quickly.
Mp, G9, first I hope you guys had some good times over christmas
Deletethen I would like to thank you...that's very sweet of you to have waited for me to come back before releasing this supr hit, it makes me feel really special now ;-)
You'll be relieved, I'm back ! No need for you to invent some crazy excuses anymore to cover for me, you can release it now, go go go ;-P
Well Shinra, as you can read below, the timing of your return may indeed end up as being "highly suspicious"! ^_^
DeleteDamn a conspiracy between the 3 of you! So mp did fortune smile upon us today?
ReplyDeleteNot today...but yesterday!
DeleteYes, I have good news to bring indeed. The new pages were very useful so I think we now have the whole story together.
I will now begin to adapt the text for the last couple of pages. I have good hope that I don't have to ask for any change. This could potentially lead to the whole thing being done tomorrow or friday. Keep your fingers crossed, everyone!
Let me have a go at it now and I'll give a new update here in a few hours when I'm hopefully done.
There we go. 7 hours straight, nothing but typing and thinking. Neck, back, and shoulders hurt, and my brain is all over the place...but I'm DONE!!!
ReplyDeleteDear gentlemen (ladies here too?), the comic is finished, the text is done.
I did ask for a handful of different pictures, but they all have to do with basic render mistakes and are easy to make again. The puzzle is solved!
Finally! \o/
Now all that's left is wait for G9 to wake up (important first step), find time to dig through the entire huge email I just wrote, and work on the fixes and suggestions.
Then it'll go to me one last time for the final check and then you can finally have a look at what we have been doing the past 6 months!
So this is the critical moment, where i give G9 some inspirations and ideas that he just have to include in the story and delays it even more? :)
ReplyDeleteSeems certainly so if it is enough to get you out of your hiding place! >_<
DeleteLove you to xP
