Hello all, I'm back... ^o^
and, yes, I've bought a new chair ^_^
While I was lying all day, I've googling some tips for rendering "a better look yet faster sunlight render" (even the doctor said I'm weird, he thought I was googling about my back... >_<)
Since I can't render anything there, I just keep reading and reading, and voila! I found it!
And I just found that I'm an idiot! I've used uber environment the wrong way all the time... >)<!
Now, I try to render some indoor scenes with sunlight in it! Aha! yes, it's far far away from perfect, it even does'nt have volumetric light on it, but hey, at least it looks better (IMHO)...
So, what do you think ?

ReplyDeleteWith so much praise in the thread, you'll likely forgive me if I'm more negative here. I honestly think there is still a lot of improvement needed to get the better effect you want.
ReplyDeleteDespite realizing that I'm looking at a room that's supposed to be bathed in sunlight, I still think everything looks very...artificial (for lack of a better word). The choice of pants may not help here either, but there is so little detail in the textures. Take a look at the 2nd picture: just about everything is one color and nothing more. Little shading, no structure... it looks fake. It looks like earlier generation computer generated graphics, while it always was your strength to make everything look real.
Among these 5 pictures, I like her right foot in the 3rd picture the best. The effect of the sunlight is really well done. But her upper body skin in the same picture looks very flat and unfinished. As a completely random example, take a look at page 73 from Gaia 4: now that is some good realistic looking skin.
The shading in these 5 pictures isn't perfect either. Mei's shadow in the 2nd picture seems completely random. The table in the 4th picture has no shadow at all (another example of the "artificial look"). In the 3rd pic, Mei has pretty random spots of shadow on her belly...and I could go on with more examples, but you get the point.
This all sounds extremely negative, but that's only because you ask us to focus on the difference in the rendering process. The pictures in general are just more of your usual top quality stuff.
I only mean to say that I see no real improvement in these 5 sample pics. But that's completely your fault for spoiling me with the amazing pics in your previous works!
And also, I know it's not so important as I make it seem, because the pics will be downsized anyway so small mistakes become hardly noticable.
Oh, and do something about her left foot in the 1st pic! That is one flat foot and her heel seems sharp enough to tear a hole in that couch! >_<

DeleteYup you are right, it's not optimal yet, since I want to render it quick, so I must minimize the quality a little bit, in this case I tried various method, reducing the shadow is one of them, but it seems someone has "super eyes" to see that! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
Back to Gaia 4.1.... T_T
Personally I think they look great. I don't have a problem with small details on these as I feel like you're work just keeps getting better.
