It's been weeks since the last update, so maybe I need to put something here to show that we are working on something, oh and like usual... spoler alert!
Happy Monday ! >_<
Nice but I don't like that there is so much "inbetweeners" having sex scenes (the cigarette guy, Allister...) I'd prefer the Dark Emperor to do the corruption and sex. We know that his lackeys have no real corruption power, it's fake, just hypnosis.
Keep in mind that this story is a prequel to everything you know of the Rangers series. There is no Dark Emperor yet and there are no lackeys yet, so all of that doesn't count here in this story. We cannot let anything happen if we need to wait for the Big Bad Stud to appear first, so that won't do at all. And besides, he can't be everywhere at once. This chapter shows events in both the human world and the elf world, and there is plenty going on on both sides.
The one you see in the last picture is the parasite creature responsible for infecting Megan (and Lin) in the first chapter. Obviously, we have plans for him in the second chapter, but he is no Dark Emperor (yet? ;P)
This is a difficult question to answer because we're pretty unsure about this too and have been discussing about this very subject a lot too recently. Both G9 and I greatly prefer to release all the remaining pages in one go, so that SR0 will end up with 2 chapters total.
However, I'm not a fan of ridiculously big chapters. Is it really necessary to release 300 pages (imaginary number) at once when you can also give the reader multiple smaller amounts of pages? (So that each scene can be appreciated more compared to becoming a blur in the oversaturation of pages and scenes.) It's the exact same discussion as we all had with each other for Shinra's The Fallen Star 8.
A guarantee that I can give you (and everyone else) is that we'll continue working on SR0 until it's finished. It will not be like SR0-1 where we, when it turned out that a split was needed, treated it like a normal chapter, meaning that we finished that and then moved over to a different comic. Instead, IF (emphasis on IF) there will be another split, it will simply be the decision of already giving you a part of the finished pages earlier than you'd have gotten them otherwise. In other words, it will not have any influence on the time it'll take us to complete the final page of the story; it'll simply be like TFS8: already releasing earlier parts of the chapter that are finished just fine and are just waiting for the remaining pages to be done.
And, also just like with TFS8, a reason not to do this is for artistic purposes: does the intended part to be released feel balanced enough? Does it contain everything to warrant it being its own mini-chapter, or will it leave the reader unsatisfied? Does it still leave enough secrets, questions and, as a result, anticipation for the remaining part? Not every reader may care about these issues, but it's something that we, as the makers, would like to get right.
And finally, there is an additional reason why splitting is problematic for us: we don't make the pages in a chronological order. This is also the reason why we always have difficulty answering questions about how far we are done. We leave gaps in scenes and inbetween scenes to be filled later until we know what needs to be put where. We remake (parts of) older scenes if it turns out that it'll create continuity mistakes. (An example is the time of the day that a scene should occur in. Morning, noon, evening, night... We want to repair it when we spot a mistake like that.) And we sometimes simply get a good idea to (greatly) improve the events in some scenes and we rebuild them.
To give you an example from SR0-1: the scene at the start where Megan enters Drake's room, ice cream in hand, has a chat with him, and ends up running away because he is in the mood for more than a chat. This scene was one of the last ones of the entire chapter to be made (updated graphics were the sole reason for the fix here). It wouldn't have been possible for us to change this anymore if this part had already been put online. Releasing pages online is the same as finalizing them. And it simply always takes us a while to be convinced that it's all good like it is and thus will stay like it is.
A long answer to a simple question, but it's probably good to inform everyone what the additional reasons are for the long, long wait between our comics.
As for your other question, no, the deleted scene still hasn't been released yet. We will do so when we are getting closer to the finish line in order to regenerate attention for SR-0 and give everyone a reason to revisit the story and become familiar with the story again before they get to sink their teeth into the conclusion.
I was hoping Alayeh would be corrupted by someone better than Lucian... Even Allister he is cool but it's true that like anonymous said he has no real corruption power...
In that case you'll be happy to know that neither Alayeh nor Lucian can be seen in any of these pictures, so there is no reason to reach that conclusion. ^^
Oh I meant the freaky guy with the mowhawk. Now I remember that Lucian is the elf :-P Still, it's good it's not Alayeh. She's my favorite character of SR0 and I hope she'll get a very good sexy corruption ;-)
Hi G9, it's been a while since I last left a comment here, but don't go thinking I'm far away, I was just lurking in the dark corners of your blog :P
Really Really great update, you're becoming so good with Octane.
I've just had a question, and don't get me wrong on this, I'm just asking out of curiosity, And I'm in no case questioning the quality of your work ^^
If you look at picture 5, with Al and the nice girl having fun in the forest, IMHO this pic is the best, the skin look so real and the lighting is just perfect. On th other hand, when you look at picture 1 or even picture 3 with Vora and Mimi(?) they look so much more "grainy" compare to picture 5.
Is this due to lighting which is much more difficult to render inside than in an open environment, Like the same explanation than what I was asking last time with the render of Shao Kahn where the light is not obstructed by anything in an open environment? Or is it just because Picture 5 has been done after, and you're just getting better and better at it?
Plus... Watching those pics again, I think I've made a major discovery ^^ But I don't know if I should say so or keep my mouth shut :P
Hey Shinra! Long time no see you here >_< I know someone mysterious keeps lurking on my blog... I knew it... And I'm sure mpgrey can sense it as well... (As good as he can sense chocolate >_<) Thank you so much, I'm still learning to have a good render with octane.
Picture 5 is what we have with "default" lighting in octane,ie the "sun". It gave the fastest render and clean result. The grainy one is the one that's indoor, somewhere closed, where the sun light can go through. It renders longer and need a long time to have a clear result like the sun light does.
The Shao Khan one is different, it's based on Octane IBL preset. It's image based light, and... it can't give a good render once it's an indoor scene >_< (I don't know how to use it well for now...)
WHAT??? DISCOVERY? mp! We must stop Shinra now! Where is he when I need him >_<
Don't worry, I know where he lives. He can expect a visit from a few men in black any day soon.
...And then they'll stop at your home too to smack you around for still getting Shao Kahn's name wrong! >_<
But seriously, Shinra, no specific need to keep your mouth shut about theories for the upcoming comic. It's the number 1 activity on your own blog; why wouldn't that be allowed here? You'll probably get the same silence from us as you give your own readers though. ^_^
Normally you should be able to use an IBL for an indoor scene, but you need to use an HDRI which represent a similar indoor scene, otherwise it won't work I guess. I'm not a specialist at all so it's hard to judge >_<
Ok for my theory then, here I go ^^ On the very first picture, the baby which Lin is holding... You've used the exact same immortal texture as for the one you've always used on... the dark emperor O_o
Oh my. If that baby is the Dark Emperor then there sure has been an impressive growth spurt by the time the Shadow Ranger main series takes place! And during the Gaia era, he is actually just a horny teenager. Could it be...Timmy?
He has a super fast metabolism fed by all this sexual energy going around, and Gaia is supposed to take place after shadow ranger, so it still possible :P
Plus G9 is not commenting back, which means a lot ^^ So I maintain my theory... Or I can also foresee a fusion between the baby and prof Kyle Ahahaha
G9 hasn't been commenting a lot lately anyway, so I wouldn't interpret that as a sign of being right. I'm not telling anything. I'm not going to strip you of the right to feel proud for believing that you got it right, only to discover later that... ;)
The total progress is now certainly around 70%. I haven't received any new pages for a while though, but that has given me the chance to catch up with the text work for almost all the pages that currently have been made. So that already means a reduced waiting time at the end of the process.
Is there any way to change the process of releasing the comics because presently it seems as though G9's way is to release 1 huge project which takes a year or slightly longer which causes me to lose track of the storyline and interest in it D: I don't know if other fans face this issue as well
For example: GAIA Rangers 1- 060212 GAIA Rangers 2- 130312 GAIA Rangers 3- 180512 GAIA Rangers 4- 091012 GAIA Rangers 5- 310313 SR0 - 100114 SR0 2 - Probably October or later considering that it's 70%? now but knowing G9 and from previous works it is clear that there are always delays when the comic is going to be released
It is evident that progressively and gradually, the timing to release works has increased over time D: granted that the chapter is longer as a whole.
This reminds me a lot of corruption story authors like inoino or macxes who produces one comic a year to the disappointment of many of their fans
Perhaps we could have a discussion to see if it is possible for G9 to split the story from the get-go into smaller parts so as to facilitate its release in a more predictable manner due to its shorter duration e.g: 3 months just like how manga has a weekly shonen jump where every week I know I will get my fill of a manga :D
Personally I have 0 experience in creating such amazing works like G9 but I believe that this would be feasible as G9 has done it before. Perhaps with more planning from the start on how the story would go such a feat could be achieved once more. I know that one-off smaller works like filthy fantasy, succubus etc is released in between but maybe it would be better if such works are released after a major work is completed (e.g: end of GAIA or SR0) so that fans can fully digest G9's brilliant work instead of having to recall what happened in the previous chapter which we read 1 year ago
Yes, dear anonymous. I'm sorry for the late release date. The main problem with why I don't prefer to split the story into little parts is... I'm not a good story maker. Sometime I need to remake the whole scenes just because I late to realize the paradox I made into the story. That's why I prefer to make the whole story before releasing it. And the reason for the late release is my limited time. I hope you can understand that these comic are my hobby. I released them for free. And I need a job for my daily routine, right? Money to pay my bills, ... and even my chupa chups >_<. Before, I was still live together with my parents, don't have jobs, so I can have all day long to make comics. But not now... I'm sorry if I disappointed you. I still try to spare my times to continue the comic. Create some short comics for the time between the big release. That's all I can do for now. I hope you can understand.
No, I don't believe you! Your comics are so great. these can't be only a hobby. ^_^ Only want you to know that we really love your comics, and we can wait for the best comic.
This has nothing to do with planning, and in the meantime, is all about planning O_o
I can only talk from my own experience, where my stories are carefully planned, but still it is most of the time (all the time >_<) impossible for me to commit to or predict a release date.
Why is it so hard to do so when professional artists are doing it all the time? Why is it so hard to release a shorter comic every 3 months when the shonen jump get published every week? ...The answer is in the question, and has been mostly answered by G9 already... Those people are paid to produce their art, it's what make them live than to deliver on a regular basis. If they don't put the hours to stick to their due dates, they don't get paid or they stopped being seen as professional, in two words they don't pay the bills.
For us it's the other way around, we're giving this for free, and we have another real life job who allows us to make a comfortable living but on the other hand, leave us with very little time for what's on the side >_< Despite the fact that we love to please you guys, it's currently a hobby that cost us more than what we get.
In the same way, while you may think that releasing comics in shorter installment is actually easier, I've learn the hard way and at my own expense, that the stress or the last mile to release a chapter, as small as it can be, is not less than for a bigger chapter. It's actually multiplied by the number of part that you cut your volume into >_< In other words, 2 or 3 times more pressure.
Again, I may come across as arrogant, but I know I'm planning my story well in advance, and still it's hard to split some work when it has not been planned to be split. You might say it was a mistake from the beginning, but who would have know it would have taken such an extent.
I know I'm repeating myself, but keep in mind that it takes roughly 30-60 minutes to produce 1 pictures, while those comics count hundreds if not thousands of them. If you know that to deliver within 3 months, even a relatively short chapter, you need to produce 200-300 pics, you must have a bulletproof action plan, know exactly what scene and image to render, in which order, have no room for incertainty. And to get this level of committment, you need time... or again get paid for it.
I'm dreaming about being able to deliver a short chapter every week, or even once a month, having my stories being eagerly awaited because your fans knows it's coming every second friday of the month... but between an hectic life and unforeseen disturbing mishaps, We have to be realistic ^^
As far as I'm concerned, I'll definitely plan differently for next projects.
Well, what Shinra describes would be the ideal situation in which it would be possible to produce a new comic consistently every 3 months. Needless to say, that is just a hypothetical situation for us.
A big difference between Shinra and G9 (+me) is that Shinra is infinitely better at planning ahead. And even Shinra cannot get it to work faultlessly every time...
Ironically, SR0 is the one comic with the most thought behind it. No other comic that we made (possibly save for Violet) was designed so thoroughly from the get-go, but this was just because this is a prequel that has to deal with many canon facts and needs to weave them together without making mistakes.
But even this well-planned (for our standards) storyboard was extremely limited: only the major plot points (the puzzle pieces that needed to fit together) were taken care of; all other material is being made in our usual way: almost completely on the spot.
And unsurprisingly, it's always these additional scenes (the non-major scenes) that see the most changes. They get freely moved around; they are enhanced later on or prolonged/cut or even changed completely.
And thus these are the scenes that make us reluctant to release pages too soon because we need a long time to discover/feel that they are finally in their right state.
To vaguely describe this with an example: an early scene was changed to give one character a different role. While this gave more story to work with, it hurt the logic behind this character's role a bit. Seeing as I also preferred the pics that were taken out over the new pics, we first needed to discover that this new scene worked just fine for later scenes. Until that time, it only had the status of "concept scene". We could always put the other scene back if needed.
Examples like this are the reason why we don't work chronologically and why the release of a chapter (or at least a new part) can get held back: just because some older scenes aren't 100% ready yet.
Of course there are limits to even our hesitation. Otherwise we would never be able to release a story in chapters at all! ^_^
In other words, you put all your efforts in bring us a great story for free despite all circumstances, what you are making demands both will and passion.
By the way, have you thought about adding a few more people to your team? It's great the way it is now, but that would diminish your workload (which is quite a lot).
Also I wanted to ask, after you finish your actual projects, what's in your future? I mean shall we expect a reboot of Gaia Rangers? an all new project? please new comics based on games XD (....or maybe... an original game? ;) )
Finally I must say, you have my thanks, I really enjoy your work, and I hope to keep reading it for a while (even if I have to wait a year, I'ts really worth of it XD )
Ironically, "less is more" when it comes to multiple people working on the same project when making these comics. The working speed actually reduces with multiple people involved who depend on each other's input and all have their own vision and own available time (or lack of it). No one would even be able to assist G9 in the making of the pictures. After all, they're stored on his pc with his settings and all that, and we all like the result because he is so good at making them anyway.
As for the future, we are most certainly not thinking about that. We have SR0 to complete as well as The Gaia series and the PGS story. I don't even want to imagine when all of that will be ready! So there is no need to let ourselves be distracted by daydreaming about other interesting ideas. It's about time to wrap up those other comics first. ...And quite possibly, there will be some smaller comics inbetween anyway. ^_^
In retrospect, we wouldn't have made SR0 if we knew that it would end up delaying the Gaia series this much. It really was originally designed as a normal-length flashback chapter.
Still, give part 2 a chance to wow you when it arrives. That may be sooner than you expect... ;)
Probably tomorrow. The package is ready, but it still needs to get larger text. Remember the most common complaint about SR0-1 with its very small text (especially in e-hentai viewing format)? We might as well do something about that and make it easier on the eyes to read the deleted scene.
It has 38 pages (including cover, intro and some bonus pages).
very nice :) oh man we are waiting ;)
ReplyDeleteand I have so many questions but at the moment no time :(
cool! really waiting for a chapter release

ReplyDeleteit really does look brilliant is there any assurances that this will not be extended further causing it to be split into an additional chapter again?
ReplyDeleteBtw, has the deleted scenes from SR0 part 1 been released?
This is a difficult question to answer because we're pretty unsure about this too and have been discussing about this very subject a lot too recently.
DeleteBoth G9 and I greatly prefer to release all the remaining pages in one go, so that SR0 will end up with 2 chapters total.

DeleteOnly want you to know that we really love your comics, and we can wait for the best comic.
This has nothing to do with planning, and in the meantime, is all about planning O_o
DeleteI can only talk from my own experience, where my stories are carefully planned, but still it is most of the time (all the time >_<) impossible for me to commit to or predict a release date.
For us it's the other way around, we're giving this for free, and we have another real life job who allows us to make a comfortable living but on the other hand, leave us with very little time for what's on the side >_<
Despite the fact that we love to please you guys, it's currently a hobby that cost us more than what we get.
No room for incertainty?
DeleteLooks like you might be putting a bit too much strain on G9...
Well, what Shinra describes would be the ideal situation in which it would be possible to produce a new comic consistently every 3 months.
DeleteNeedless to say, that is just a hypothetical situation for us.
DeleteBy the way, have you thought about adding a few more people to your team? It's great the way it is now, but that would diminish your workload (which is quite a lot).
Also I wanted to ask, after you finish your actual projects, what's in your future? I mean shall we expect a reboot of Gaia Rangers? an all new project? please new comics based on games XD (....or maybe... an original game? ;) )
Finally I must say, you have my thanks, I really enjoy your work, and I hope to keep reading it for a while (even if I have to wait a year, I'ts really worth of it XD )
Thanks for the kind vote of confidence!
DeleteIronically, "less is more" when it comes to multiple people working on the same project when making these comics.
any chance of a smaller comic coming anytime soon? would really love a Lightning/Serah corruption comic.
ReplyDeleteNo new smaller comic is being planned at the moment, and we won't make anything new until the last page of SR0 is ready.
DeleteHowever, we are currently preparing the SR0-1 deleted scene for release.
Finally!
As much as want to see part 2, I wish you hadn't started this and just continued with Gaia Rangers!
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteIn retrospect, we wouldn't have made SR0 if we knew that it would end up delaying the Gaia series this much. It really was originally designed as a normal-length flashback chapter.
DeleteStill, give part 2 a chance to wow you when it arrives. That may be sooner than you expect... ;)
really :) SR0-1 is coming :) :) :)
ReplyDeletethis week?
or maybe in 1/2/3 days?
how many p. ?
Probably tomorrow. The package is ready, but it still needs to get larger text.
DeleteRemember the most common complaint about SR0-1 with its very small text (especially in e-hentai viewing format)? We might as well do something about that and make it easier on the eyes to read the deleted scene.
It has 38 pages (including cover, intro and some bonus pages).
And, it will be behind a paywall ;)
DeleteDon't you be spreading false rumors! You're scaring the neighbourhood.
Deleteyes yes yes :) :)
ReplyDeletewhat 38 p.???
ReplyDeleteone side of g.e-hentai !!! ????
Yes, it will be put on e-hentai as usual. I'll do so later today when I have time. :)
